Bible Reading - Week 25

WEEK 25

As you go through your readings this week be sure to look for evidence that indicates whether the kings you read about are devoted to God or not. Also, appreciate the ministries of Elijah and Elisha.

VERSE OF THE WEEK

1 Kings 18:37 Answer me, LORD! Answer me so that this people will know that you, the LORD, are God and that you have turned their hearts back.

DAY 1 1 Kings 15:1-24; 2 Chronicles 13-16

  • What differences do you see between Abijam and Asa?
  • Who wins the civil war between Abijah king of Judah and Jeroboam king of Israel? Why are they successful although they are outnumbered two to one?
  • Take note of how Asa prays for the Lord’s help in battle. We need God’s help against our enemies. It is not wise to try to be independent and self-reliant, we need God.
  • What happens to Israel when they seek the Lord eagerly?
  • How does Asa’s army of 300,000 defeat the one-million-man army of Ethiopia?
  • What does Asa do after hearing the words of the prophet Azariah? What does he do after hearing the words of Hanani?

DAY2 1 Kings 15:25-16:34’ 2 Chronicles 17

  • Pay attention to how violent and ungodly people who bear God’s name can be?
  • What makes Jehoshaphat different?

DAY 3 1 Kings 17-19

  • Look for the miracles Elijah does.
  • Be sure to thank the Lord for being all powerful.
  • Why do you think Elijah is so afraid when Jezebel threatens him? why does he want to die?

DAY 4 1 Kings 20-21

  • Notice how Ben-hadad, king of Aram, acts just like a bully.
  • Is the Lord a “god” of the mountains only, or is he a “god” of the valleys too? How does he prove this to the Arameans?
  • What appears to be Ahab’s motivation for acquiring Naboth’s vineyard? What does it say about Ahab that he follows the advice Jezebel gives him for securing the vineyard for himself? What is Ahab’s response to Elijah’s prophecy?

DAY 5 1 Kings 22; 2 Chronicles 18-20

  • In what ways is Micaiah different from the other prophets who speak to Ahab?
  • How does Ahab die? Look for the good things Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, does in 2 Chronicles 19-20.
  • How does the Lord orchestrate a great victory for Israel against its enemies in 2 Chronicles 20?

DAY 6 2 Kings 1-4

  • How does the Lord convey his power over false gods in chapter 1?
  • What does Elisha want from Elijah before Elijah is taken from him?
  • How does Elijah go to heaven?
  • Take time to express gratitude to the Lord for having the power to raise the dead, as illustrated through the ministry of Elisha to the son of the Shunamite woman.
