Bible Reading - Week 28

WEEK 28

This week’s readings will take us to a major turning point in the Old Testament, the fall of the northern kingdom of Israel to Assyria. This is a definite low point because it was punishment for repeated, hardhearted rebellion against the Lord. Nevertheless, as you will discover, all hope is not lost.

VERSE OF THE WEEK

Micah 6:8 Mankind, he has told each of you what is good and what it is the LORD requires of you: to act justly, to love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God.

DAY 1 Isaiah 5-8

  • In chapter 5 look for the point of the parable of the vineyard and for the reasons for the “woes” against God’s people. Note: “Woe” is a term that that conveys God’s displeasure regarding the unsatisfactory condition of those he is addressing.
  • Why do the people go into captivity?
  • What do Isaiah’s vision and commission in chapter 6 teach us about God?
  • Notice the trying days to come predicted in the closing verses of chapter 7.
  • According to chapter 8, the Lord alone should be feared. Who are you afraid of? Why do you think the Lord demands total commitment and tolerates no rivals?

DAY 2 Isaiah 9-12

  • Whose birth is predicted in chapter 9?
  • What evidence of hope do you find in chapters 10-12? Be sure to pause and give thanks to the Lord today for the hope he has given to you. How does having hope help you cope with the trials you face?

DAY 3 Micah 1-4

  • Why is the Lord coming against his people as if he is a warrior?
  • What kind of preacher in chapter 2 do the people like to hear?
  • Is there any hope for the people in chapter 2?
  • What are the prophets doing wrong in chapter 3?
  • Summarize the hope described in chapter 4.

DAY 4 Micah 5-7

  • Whose birth is predicted in 5:2? If you are not sure, read Matthew 2:1-6 to find the answer.
  • According to chapter 6, what does the Lord require of mankind? Spend a few minutes praying the Lord will help you and your fellow church members to meet these requirements.
  • Rejoice over the hope with which Micah ends.

DAY5 2 Kings 16-17; 2 Chronicles 28

  • What are the sins of evil king Ahaz?
  • What are the sins of the people of Israel according to 2 Kings 17? What price did they pay for their disobedience?
  • As you read 2 Chronicles 28, take note of how idolatrous king Ahaz is.

DAY 6 Isaiah 13-17

  • What nation does the Lord promise to use to punish the Babylonians?
  • What is Moab’s particularly notable sin?
  • What happens to Damascus?

What will people do after Israel is
