Bible Reading - Week 34

WEEK 34

Pay attention as you read to how despite obvious judgment—defeat, destruction, and deportation—many of the Israelites continue to follow the path of disobedience as opposed to trusting the Lord’s word given to them through Jeremiah. You will also be reminded, as you read about the Lord judging other nations, that he is the one to whom everyone must one day answer.

VERSE OF THE WEEK

Psalm 82:8 Rise up, God, judge the earth, for all the nations belong to you.

DAY 1 2 Kings 24-24; 2 Chronicles 36:1-21; Jeremiah 52

  • According to today’s readings, what happens to Jehoiakim? To Jehoiachin? To Zedekiah? To the Temple in Jerusalem?
  • What is the decree of King Cyrus of Persia?
  • What do the Chaldeans do with the items in the Jerusalem temple when they destroy it?

DAY 2 Jeremiah 41-44

  • As you read today’s chapters, be on the lookout for the various ways the Israelites continue to show rebellion against the Lord?
  • What does Jeremiah warn is sure to happen if the remnant of Judah flees to Egypt?
  • Why do the people believe more in the “queen of heaven” (a false god of the Assyrians, Babylonians, and Canaanites) than the Lord?

DAY 3 Obadiah; Psalm 82-83

  • What are Edom’s sins for which it is about to be punished?
  • What will happen to Edom on the day of the Lord?
  • What actions does Psalm 82 call for? How are believers today obeying these commands? How can believers do better at obeying them?
  • According to Psalm 83, how do God’s enemies attack him?

DAY 4 Jeremiah 45-48

  • What is the Lord’s message to Baruch in chapter 45?
  • Chapters 46-48 declare that judgment is coming on Egypt, the Philistines, and Moab. These chapters confirm the certainty of judgment against those who set themselves as enemies of God’s people.

DAY 5 Jeremiah 49-50

  • God continues to announce judgment through Jeremiah on Judah’s surrounding nations. The climax is the announcement of judgment against Babylon.
  • What is the Lord’s promise to Israel which coincides with Babylon’s defeat?

DAY 6 Jeremiah 51; Psalm 137

  • After the lengthy description of the Lord’s judgment against Babylon, what does Jeremiah tell Seraiah to do with the scroll after he finishes reading it to the Babylonians?
  • As you think about the judgment of God, what national sins stand out as deserving judgment?
