Bible Reading - Week 35

WEEK 35

You will see a great deal of judgment this week as you read in Lamentations and Ezekiel. Don’t lose sight of the fact that the Lord never judges those who do not deserve it.

VERSE OF THE WEEK

Lamentations 3:25 The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the person who seeks him.

DAY 1 Lamentations 1:1-3:36

  • Judah is described as being in exile. What reason is given for this?
  • How does Jeremiah, the author, feel about what is happening in Jerusalem? What are his emotions?
  • How do Judah’s enemies feel about the hardship Judah is experiencing?
  • Why are Jeremiah’s eyes worn out?
  • How do Judah’s enemies feel about what’s happening?
  • What animals does Jeremiah say the Lord is like because of the punishment he is inflicting on his people?
  • Take note of Jeremiah’s confidence in the Lord despite all the hardship (3:22-33).

DAY 2 Lamentations 3:37-5:22

  • Notice how Jeremiah calls his people back to God in 3:40-42.
  • Things are so desperate in Jerusalem that mothers do something almost inconceivable. What is it?
  • In desperation, the citizens of Jerusalem look for help from another nation. Did any come to their aide?
  • Despite all the suffering, does Jeremiah lose faith?

DAY 3 Ezekiel 1-4

  • Ezekiel begins with a report of a glorious vision that climaxes with him hearing a voice. What does he do when he hears this voice and sees the one who addresses him?
  • What assignment does Ezekiel receive?
  • What will happen to Ezekiel if he fails to obey his assignment? What is Ezekiel to do for 390 days and then for forty days?
  • Why will it be difficult for Ezekiel to fulfill his mission?

DAY 4 Ezekiel 5-8

  • Judgment is coming upon the Israelites of Ezekiel’s day. Take note of how the division of his hair represents the different fates the people are going to suffer.
  • Because of the sins of the citizens of Jerusalem, what will fathers and sons eat within Jerusalem?
  • What will happen to the places of idolatry and to the idols themselves?
  • What types of pagan practices does Ezekiel see in the temple?

DAY 5 Ezekiel 9-12

  • What is the job of the man with the writing instrument? What is the job of the six men with deadly weapons?
  • Pay special attention to chapter 10 because it describes the glory of the Lord departing Jerusalem.
  • Notice that despite how bad things are, there is yet hope given in chapter 11. What kind of heart is promised for those who return in the future?

DAY 6 Ezekiel 13-16

  • What is the Lord’s message to the foolish prophets who prophesy out of their own imagination?
  • What three men could not save Israel from judgment?
  • Chapters 15-16 refer to Jerusalem first as a useless vine and then as an adulterous wife. These underscore why the Lord is justified in his punishments against them.
