Bible Reading - Week 39

WEEK 39

You have now come to the final full week of Old Testament readings. Upon completion of the Old Testament you will be just over 75% of the way through the entire Bible. Congratulations!

VERSE OF THE WEEK

Ezra 7:10 Now Ezra had determined in his heart to study the law of the LORD, obey it, and teach its statutes and ordinances in Israel.

DAY 1 Esther 6-10

  • Continue to look for examples of God’s providence as you complete the book of Esther today.
  • A huge underlying them in Esther is God’s protection of his people. Be on the lookout for reminders of that as you read. What do you and your loved ones most need protection from right now? Take some time to pray specifically about that?

DAY 2 Malachi; Psalm 50

  • What is the chief complaint the Lord has against Israel in the book of Malachi?
  • What does the Lord desire for his name among the nations?
  • What is the Lord’s problem with the priests?
  • How has Israel wearied the Lord?
  • What will the Lord do when he comes?
  • How have the people robbed God?
  • What harsh words does Israel speak against the Lord in chapter 3?
  • Notice the difference in chapter 4 between the wicked and the righteous on the day of the Lord.
  • What does the Lord promise to do to the wicked in Psalm 50? To his people?

DAY 3 Ezra 7-10

  • Who is Ezra? What is he determined to do?
  • What does the letter of King Artaxerxes permit Ezra and the Israelites to do?
  • Why does Ezra not ask the king for help from his army to protect the Israelites on their journey? What do the people do instead? Do they arrive safely back in Jerusalem?
  • Why is intermarrying with the non-Jewish people a problem?

DAY 4 Nehemiah 1-4

  • What news brings Nehemiah to tears?
  • What does Nehemiah get permission from King Artaxerxes to do?
  • Who opposes the reconstruction project?
  • What do the Israelites do to protect themselves from their enemies?

DAY 5 Nehemiah 5-7

  • What problem does Nehemiah have to address in chapter 5?
  • How long does it take to complete the reconstruction of the wall?

DAY 6 Nehemiah 8-10

  • How long does Ezra read from the book of the law to the people?
  • How many days during the festival does Ezra read from the law?
  • Note how most of chapter 9 traces Israel’s history in the form of confession.
  • Chapter 10 reveals a solemn vow of faithfulness to God. What adjustments were they willing to make to get in line with God’s will? What adjustments will you make?
