Bible Reading - Week 42

WEEK 42

This week you will see the miraculous power of Jesus on full display. Prepare to be marveled at what he can do. You will also see him predicting his death. Make sure to appreciate him for being faithful to fulfill his mission.

VERSE OF THE WEEK

Luke 8:18 Therefore take care how you listen. For whoever has, more will be given to him; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him.

DAY 1 Matthew 13:1-53; Mark 4:1-34; Luke 8:1-8

  • Which type of soil best describes you?
  • Identify the various enemies to the word of God taking root and producing fruit in a person’s life. Which do you find to be the greatest challenge in your life? How do you keep it from destroying your fruitfulness for God?
  • What would you say is the main teaching of the parable of the weeds in the field?
  • Based on today’s reading, what reason(s) can you find for why Jesus used parables?

DAY 2 Matthew 8:18-34; 9:18-38; Mark 4:35-5:43; Luke 8:22-56; 9:57-62

  • Be on the lookout today for examples of Jesus’ power. Over what does he show his power? What does this say about him?
  • Try to imagine being one of Jesus’ disciples and witnessing his miracles day after day. What should you begin to think about him the more you witness his miracles?

DAY 3 Matthew 10; 14; Mark 6:7-56; Luke 9:1-17; John 6

  • Today you will see that Jesus expects his disciples to work for him. Notice that he gives them the ability they need to do what he asks them to do. Notice also they can expect resistance to their work. We must not be surprised when we face hardships for following Christ.
  • When Peter walked on water, he seemed to be demonstrating great faith. What changed that caused him to begin to sink?

  • What miracle in today’s reading appears in all four Gospels?
  • When the crowds turn away from Jesus in John 6, why do the disciples remain with him?

DAY 4 Matthew 15; Mark 7:1-8:10

  • What is the fundamental problem with the Pharisees and scribes in today’s reading?
  • What defiles a person?
  • Note that Jesus pushes the faith of the Canaanite/Gentile mother with the girl tormented by a demon. The mother proves her faith, in contrast with the Jewish religious leaders, who didn’t have faith.

DAY 5 Matthew 16; Mark 8:11-9:1; Luke 9:18-27

  • What is the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees Jesus warns his disciples to beware of?
  • How does Peter know Jesus is the Messiah/Christ?
  • What is required of anyone who would follow Jesus? Are you meeting those requirements?
  • If you are ashamed of Jesus and his words now, what will happen to when Jesus comes again?

DAY 6 Matthew 17-18; Mark 9:2-50; Luke 9:28-56

  • What happens to Jesus on the high mountain?
  • Why couldn’t the disciples heal the boy with seizures? Note that Matthew and Mark answer the question differently.
  • What prediction does Jesus make about himself?
  • Who is the greatest in God’s kingdom?
  • Why should believers be willing to forgive repeatedly?
